It was back in 1983 at a
staff members party from the Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Venray, that a
number of members decided that it was time to start up a musical group
or "band".
When the time finally came around that sound actually came from the
instruments, it was also time to think up a name for the "band".
Knowing that the previous musical experience went no further than
playing records on the record player (thats the predecessor of the
CD-player for the younger ones amongst you), it was decided to choose
the name
"Göt Net". (This is dialect Dutch for
'"Only Just")
The intentions were just to play during the local carnival time, "joekskapellen" festivals and the
"Hazinnenavond". (This is the opening
night for the carnival days.) These events would of course be with the
necessary unlimited supply of refreshments within easy reach.
"Göt Net"
"concerts" got the necessary attention and new musicians decided to join
the "band". The number of musicians grew and reached the level of 15
with the pleasant combination of males and females and the music by now
ranged from classical to house.
The way a band works is to all play the same tune, start together and
finish together. This was not always the case!
In the person of Mart Kusters,
"Göt Net"
found the man who could make clear to everybody that 1, 2, 3, 4 was not
only a mathematical expression but also a count down to start playing a
piece of music. He also made clear that when he was making those funny
waving movements, it was not a sign that he was going to quit but that
we were all to stop playing at the same time!
Mart also inspired a few people to change instruments which had a
surprising result. Joop Derks changed over from the Drums to the
Trombone and became a musical high-flyer (Airforce). For
"Göt Net"
he became the in-house writer supplying the ?band? with numerous
arrangements, some of which were so short that in the time another band
would start
"Göt Net"
would be half way through their program.
In the year 2007
"Göt Net"
has "grown up" and has become a musical happening wherever they play.
Their music can be heard far beyond the borders of Holland.
Below are listed a few places which have already had the pleasure of
